Default Clicking sound

i drive a 96 lx accord, I've got this clicking sound coming from the steering wheel right by the gas and brake pedals each time i turn. i know my passenger front axle needs to be changed, but the noise does not sound like as if the CV boots been broken or anything it probably skipped that part. I was wondering if anybody knows what it might be...other than an axle problem?

I think there is a U-joint around there. The joint could be loose or dry. Could a piece of plastic or a wire, or something, be rubbing against the joint? Kind of a card in the spokes sort of thing?
