Default clevite engine bearings

I called the local machine shop to find out what kind of engine bearings they use, they said they use clevite engine bearings.

Anyone know anything about clevite engine bearings? anyone have any experience with them? Just curious to hear some thoughts about em...

I've heard of them, but haven't really seen anyone with a Honda using them. I like the ACL's personally.

Clevites are mostly made for and used in Chevy's and Ford's. They don't make bearings for imports, I believe.

Yep, clevites are mostly for Domestic cars I seen a lot of my domestic guys commin in Kragen and ask for them a lot. Clevite is starting to make import parts but not in big quanities however. I believe they started to make OEM style oil pumps and bearings for Hondas now but not quite sure. Have to check my computer.

Clevite bearings a pretty good bearings, many many v8 people have used them for years, and they come with a lot of rebuild kits for all types of engines, I am not sure if they come in a 1 size fits all, or like oem, I have always used acl's with no complaints. Clevite may actually have something to do with acl, because acl bearings come with clevite lube, and the packages for clevite and acl both look the same.

Clevite makes a well known domestic bearing. unforutionatley i dont know anything about how the import ones will hold up. the domestic ones are great.

i would say trust the clevites but if you dont want to, get ACL's or OEM if you must.

What this guy said.

Clevite 77's are the tri-metal ones. You can order the damn things from Advance... $12 for a set of D-series rod bearings.

I wouldn't be surprised that Clevite makes ACLs, as suggested above, just like Daikin (Exedy) makes Honda clutches or Fram makes Honda oil filters, etc. I'd try to find out for sure before I started repeating it, mind, but I wouldn't be surprised at all.

I had clevites in my old motor. They worked fine and I didn't have any problems with them. 35,000 miles and they looked good when I pulled them out.

Clevite makes OEM honda bearings...according to a customer of mine that is a rep for Clevite ACL is Crap. I am pretty sure that if you asked a rep for ACL they might reply the opposite though.

Haha...he might, I have actually never met him. He is down in Florida.

I actually found this post to see if everyone preferred OEM or ACLs just for that reason. Of course a rep is gonna tell me his competition is crap. From what I have read though it does seem that OEM bearings are preferred. If Clevite does infact make them...then I guess that answers my question. Anybody else got any input?

here goes the OEM vs. ACL bearings thread again

Mostly a ACL bearing is a lot harder then OEM. I'm using ACL because I'm 83mm in my B16 or I would use OEM. Honda knew what they were doing from the get go

Yeah like someone else said Clevite makes bearings for hondas. I had a set in my last Ls/Vtec. I put about 40k miles on them while I had the motor. I sold it to a friend and it's still going without any problems. Oh and they're tri-metal just like OEM bearings.

Sounds good to me!

PS <---102K on OEM bearings and still going strong.

Clevite is good but sometimes they don't get the tangs right on the main bearings.

ACL's are a lil less expensive but are one hell of a bearing, so if you are not using OE, ACL's make the most since.

I've been selling ACL's for about 2.5 years and it's the most reliable product I sell with the least complaints of all products I have sold.

Here are the list of bearing brands.

- OE
- ACL
- Clevite
- Federal Mogul
- King
- Made in ROC (republic of China)

Take your pick.
