Default cleaning throttle body and intake manifold.

hi, i just found out that my cheesy air filter had a leak and the TB and manifold is lined with oily soot/dirt. I was wondering what i could do to clean it , short of unassembling everything. I tried check cleaner once on my B16A1, and my idle went to hell... so i don't know if that would be good to try again on my h22a4, thanks

It is very difficult to clean your intake manifold properly without removing it from the car.

To clean the throttle body, simply take some 2+2 or carb cleaner, open the throttle plate, spray inside and clean with a toothbrush. Start motor immediately afterwards to ensure all the grime gets sucked in and blown out.

Used in higher quantities for cleaning the manifold, 2+2 is also effective, but you risk fouling your plugs. If it's time to change the plugs, knock yourself out.

Remember, this is the easy, lazy man's way. Good luck.

I agree. Also, some carb/choke cleaners can be hard on the O2 sensor, but there are some brands out there that are o2 sensor 'safe'.

To be honest, you are really gonna want to take off the entire manifold if you really want to properly clean out that beast. It's not gonna make much of a difference if you just spray down the inside! You gotta scrub AND spray all of the gunk out... Remember if the throttlebody area is coated in gunk, then the runners are gonna be just as bad, or worse.

Get Throttle Body cleaner, not carb cleaner. The difference is the safety to all the sensors it can come into contact with. That's what I hear, anyway.
