Default Check engine light > Primary o2 Sensor??

Got a cel yesterday out of nowhere. Took it to the dealer and they plugged in the machine and it read faulty primary o2 sensor. Can't really figure out why it would go out on me. The dealer is charging $187 for that thing!

What are my alternatives? I've called local auto parts stores to see if they have replacements but they don't. Is it ok to buy a used one? Will it harm anything if I keep the bad sensor in for too long?

Buy an universal one, but you need to figure out the wires, because they have different colors than the OEM. It will be cheaper. ask someone here for the wire diagram when you get one.

I just recently got the same code. Lemme know where you find a replacement. I know sohfast.com has em for like $70...but they are used. I'd rather get a new one.

You could buy a used one, but how good is it? Running a bad sensor may cause a slight performance decrease, fuel efficiency decrease, and possibly cat converter damage but not too likely.

FWIW, I tried two generic Bosch sensors and they didn't perform well for me. I had to use OEM honda. Try places like hparts.com or hondaautomotiveparts.com for discount prices on OEM parts.

Be careful with non-Honda O2 sensors. My experience is that the ECU only likes to read a Honda sensor. I had a problem with my sensor and tried to install an MSD O2 sensor and couldn't get it to work. I broke down and ordered the stock sensor with the plug in.

Did you buy it from the dealer? Even hondaautomotiveparts.com sells them for $175 which is still high.

That's about the cheapest I've seen them for.
