Changing rod bearing question....
I need to change my rod bearing and I DO know how to do it. My question is I would like to try to do it without pulling the head off. I just had the head off and dont want to buy another headgasket. So my question is can I get away with just doing it all from underneath??
I am in the process of changing mine now. You can do it with everything attached, just drop the oil pan, take the sump off and the main bearing cradle, and they are right there. Not too difficult the only thing that sucks is you have to take it all apart too figure out what bearings you need, you have to order them by color. hope this works
So your are doing yours with the head still on correct? Its a bitch to plasti-gauge those bearing clearances with the crank still on there. I have crower rods so I have to hammer the bearing cap to break it loose and in doing so messes up my readings.

I say unless you are taking the whole engine out, putting the block on an engine stand and so forth, might as well just leave the head on if your not gonna remove the engine from the car.Has your engine had a rod knock for a while???If so you may have to remove the crank anyway to have it resurfaced and therefore you might as well just take the whole **** out.
