Changing out an oil pump...is it necessary?
I'm building a B18C motor that has about 75,000 miles on it...the oil pump looks ok, but i was wondering if it's necesary to replace it for a new one? how do i tell if it needs replacing andhow many miles are they good for?
Got some deja vu going here. Same engine and mileage as me.
I chose not to replace the oil pump or even overhaul it.
I checked for freeplay, leakage, and smooth rotation. Everything checked out OK, and I simply bolted it back on. I thought about using a Toda oil pump gear, but at $300, that's way outta budget and I could buy three or four ITR/GS-R oil pumps for that price.

I'm looking to do some maintenance on my 98 GSR motor before dropping it in the Eg. Only has 53k on it, so I am thinking about skipping the oil / water pump.
Are they really hard to change when the motor is in the car vs. the motor on an engine stand?
How often should you change the water / oil pumps?

The water pump is a piece of cake, but the oil pump requires you to drop the exhaust manifold and oil pan....not to mention the mess that it makes.
Change it out while you can.
