Default changing header gaskets every five months??

a worker at a local car shop told me headers are to much of a pain and dont produce good enough hp gains to make them worthwile.
weather or not he's right i could care less.
but he said often you'll fry out the headers gasket with in 5-6months and have to replace it?? is that true? it sounds absurd!
