Default CCing a head

Has anyone got any simple techniques for CCing a head.
Thought about using plumbers putty to fill the combustion Chamber
and then pressing the volumn of putty into a test tube to measure.
Anyone got a better idea?

Take a piece of plexy glass about 6''x6'' and make sure it is flat. drill a small hole in the center. Put Vaseline around the combustion chamber, press down. Then use a horse syringe (from tractor supply) with exactly 100cc or ml. of water or rubbing alcohol and fill the chamber through the hole until all the bubbles are out of it. This is the tricky part. If you have 60cc left in the syringe when you have filled the chamber then subtract from 100cc and you have 40cc. That is your combustion chamber displacement.

TIP: Level the head on a table before starting and the air should come to the center. Also watch for any water coming out of the intake and exh. ports. If any comes through it will not be accurate. If you don't have valvesprings installed you can also put Vaseline on the valves to seal them. Good Luck!!

You can also add a second air bubble escape hole near the intake or exhaust edge and tilt the head slightly so they rise to that side. It makes getting all the air out MUCH easier.

I "borrowed" a bunch of 10x.1cc pipettes and pipette bulb from my Microbio lab and get by with those.

I agree! On the heads I CC now I have two holes. It seems like the air wants to stay on the sides. Either way works but still takes time and patients.

I just finished CCing the head. The plexiglass thing worked great, but I ended up with 4 holes. I tried 1 hole then 2 then 4.
I did it twice and came up with 42 ccs once and 42.2 ccs the second time.

Does this seem correct for a B16a head with a lightly ported combustion chamber?

I took some photos but I still have figured out how to post them. I guess I can't without a site to download them to. Anyone know a free site?
Thanks again all for the good info.

Ralph

Thanks For the Link dohcter g.
Here is a photo of the Syringe and Plexi Plate.
The Vaseline kinda blurs the head work.
I had to get the Syringe from a local Pharmacy.
Man that was a trip. I walk in and ask the guy for the largest syringe
he has. He gives me one of those looks like he's not sure whether to call the police
or sell me the Syringe. I had to explain what I was doing and even then he wouldn't sell me the needle, just the syringe. You got to understand, I live in the land of NASCAR, Snake handlers and Jesus. I had a needle at home so it all worked out. A 60 CC syringe was the largest I could find but it was enough.
I started at 50CCs and subtracted.
Thanks again all for the help.
