catch can question.
wow, for something so simple.. this sure is confusing.
im thinking of fabbing up my own catch can.. can you guys tell me if this is a decent design? its for an n/a application, i just want to avoid putting all that oil back into my intake...
i figure i'll drain it every time i change my oil.. say... 5k miles...
here is the design of the actual can:

now heres my questions: i searched, but couldn't find them.
1: what screen material will work best? can i use window screen? the soft kind or the metal?
2: lets say i accumulate 1/2 quart of oil in my can.. that means my engine is running 1/2 quart low... how bad is this nessicarily?
3: now where the hell do i hook this up? do i go out on the valve cover and back in on the intake manifold? or do i go out on the back of the block and in on the intake manifold... im really confused here. pictures would REALLY help here.
thanks guys.

im not sure. i just want to avoid sprayng the oil back into my intake manifold.. just keeping it all cleaner.
im not exactly sure of the benifits other than that.

tube goes from valve cover to your catch can then from the catch can to the intake tubing(not the intake manifold, thats for the pcv system)..its pretty simple dood...good luck
you dont need screen at all, i used a mountain dew can and ran a piece of fuel line from the valve cover to it, works great and its lightweight, doesnt need to go back to intake thats just for emissions purposes, actually you will still get oil vapors in the intake if you run it back to the intake even from a catch can, oil vapors cause detonation, you can even run a little more timing after you do this

the benifits of not dumping the oil into the intake manifold are higher octane (fuel that is) putting oil down their will reduce your fuels octane thats why its not good to put it in their
but its bad for the enviroment if you vent it into the atmosphere
