Car jumping in the rain- please help!
I had possibly the scariest experience I ever had in a car yesterday. I was driving my 2005 Civic with 226K on the original suspension several hours to get home on the highway in POURING rain with a lot of wind and semi trucks around me. When things got BAD is when the car started jumping all over the road. It was very hard to hold it in the lane, almost as if the suspension was way too stiff and the car would be almost impossible to control when going over bumps or seems. The tires are new Road Hugger GT Eco tires filled to 37 PSI from Discount Tire. The other thing the car has is polyurethane motor mount inserts, which might make the car stiffer. I think the struts are worn out after 226K miles of pot holes, speed bumps etc, but something else could be wrong. Any help is greatly appreciated!
I noticed that the control arm bushings are starting to crack, but the ball joints and tie rod ends have no play. The car also has a pretty harsh ride, but that could just be because I run 37 PSI in my tires. I do not mind the harsh ride, but it could indicate that something is wrong with the struts,
