so i put a skunk 2 IM on my b-series a while ago and ever since when my car gets up to running temp it starts idling from 800 to 1300 rpm? and i was told the sensor that coolant runs to on the back of the mani is bad... so i replaced it and no go. same ****. so i was told to unplug it while the car was running and if it stopped idling up and down thats your problem. so i unpluged it and it idled normal?? idk what else would be wrong. help!!

 

did you replace it with a KNOWN GOOD sensor?

 

yes the sensor was good cause i pulled it off my d15. its just [freak]ing gay cause after i put on my IM and throttle body my car dont idle at running temp and my car throws a tps code around 7000 rpm... and nothings changed. everythings set right. the sensors are good... it makes no sense

 

you're talking about the iavc?
Did you renew the o-ring? It might be leaking.

i stated, that i unpluged it and it idled normal... i unpluged it while it was running and while it was idling up and down. and yes it is the ivac.

 

help any other ideas this is pissing me off

 

well if you unplugg the sensor and it idles correct, then Im not 100% convinced that its a good sensor

 

i mean they both worked fine the second before i put them on the new IM...

I know this is going to sound crazy as crap but Hondas are known for getting an air bubble trapped in the water jacket. Remove the radiator cap (cold), jack up the right front side of the car as high as you can (safely). Allow the car to idle for some time. Enough time for the water thermostat to go through 3 or 4 cylcles. Make sure the temp control is set to heat, (leaving the blower fan off) this alows the water to flow and stay hot.
Like I said I know it sounds stupid but I've preformed this many times over the years and it worked more than once. I just recently did the same thing to a friends car as it hasn't had the irratic idle since. Of course I'm sure you know the IACV could be bad amoungst other things.
Also make sure to keep the coolant level topped off during the process.

Agreed. Thats the first thing they told me from the dealer after i did a coolant drain on my car, and I got the erratic idle from it. Burped it out, no more crazy idle.

Yeah but when someone fisrt explains it to you it sounds like a garage joke as your waiting for the punch line. But, it works.

 

ok lets get this straight. it only dose it at running temp. BUT i figured out if your sitting there at a light and your cars going RRRRRRrrrrrrrrRRRRRRRrrrrrrrRRRRRRRrrrrrr, i let the clutch out enuf to drop it down to about 700 rpm and ill push the clutch back in and the "up and down" idling will stop???? AND i was taking pics of my car today and i was letting it run for a sec (cause i was in the middle of the road haha) and all the sudden rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.... it started to idle normal again? but it still idles up and down overall, so what do u guys think of that?? i guess i can try jacking up my car and do that tho...

Just give it a try cause trust me I know your frustration. It might do it one day and not the next. Just depends if the air bubble gets moved around in the cooling system. Keep up posted.

BTW, if you have a set of ramps, turn the wheels to the right and use one ramp to drive the rt front wheel up onto. Thats what I did about two weeks ago to my friends Civic and it worked.

 

I notice skunk2 intakes are notorious for this idle problem. A lot of people post about this problem on here. My brother has the same problem. Nothing is wrong when using the stock intake but when he used the skunk2 one it would just go like if it had air in the coolant or if there was a vacuum leak. Might just need a tune but not sure about that.

yea mine does it all the time, then sometimes dies which is annoying as [freak], but its a race car so who cares

 

im gonna state the obvious. u more then likely have the tps sensor and iac connectors crossed, that would cause the light and idle problem, seen it many times

uhh haha... there completely diffrent plugs... and if the sensors were switched a cel light would always be on, but its not possible. and i dont even no what the car would do if i actually did that haha??

i mean the idle problem dose goes away (now) after i sit there for a min. and i havnt tried jacking up the car yet... haha i just keep forgeting but i will let everyone no after its fixed

 

so i tried this but i didnt let the car compleetly cool down but it was still kinda warm... and it didnt work

 

im gonna try this again on sunday. im getting sick of it idleing like this
