can you use a y7 head on a y8 block???
i had just recently bought my first honda a couple of months ago from a buddy witch is a 98 civic dx.well he blew the motor witch origanally had a y7 in it but is blown so i bought a full y8 swap and put in it and the dude told me i could use my y7 head and not use the vtech and i would gain compession but this guy i had just recently met told me that i could not if someone could please help me out it would be wonderful cus if not i have to buy a new ecm and wiring harness but i am wanting to get this finished today so please can someone guide me in the right direction i know i am new at this but come on we all have a love for hondas!!!

its a waste to put a y7 head on, maybe you gain more compression but you also lose vtec. the d16y7 makes 106hp the d16y8 makes 127. why would you want to lose power. plus with the vtec head the intake plenum is much better as is the throttle body. there is no reason to goto a y7 head
It works just like a y7.

You can swap in the y8 and use the y7 ecu. You just wont have vtec

Instead of swapping heads in order to avoid buying a new ecu ($50) just use the y7 ecu in order to not swap heads

the reason i used the y7 head is because my wiring harness doesnt have the plug for the vtech silenoid so i figured the head wouldnt work right if it wasnt plugged in..so since i have a 98 dx does that mean i already have an obd2 ecm and i would only have to switch wiring harnesses or how could i make my wiring harness work???also i had acidentally broke this peice off the front left side of my auto tranny and my ecm clicks now and makes wierd noises so i thought the y8 maybe wasnt compatible with the y7 ecm..so i got the y7 head on and had everything hooked up right and it wouldnt start.it was getting fire and gas just wasnt getting no air so i am thinking its my valves on the y7 but if i just switch over to the y8 even with the y7 wiring harness should it run after that????
