Default Can I run without air filter?

Can I run several 1/4 runs without an air filter? Just need to measure something. Will it damage the engine?

You can if you want but I damn sure would'nt. I don't want dirt and rock and whatnot being able to get into my motor.

i wouldnt either, but it can be done. i actually was forced to do it on my way home cuz my filter wasnt on tigt enough

but if you have one laying around, and u wanna be fast just unhook your intake, and strap the filter right on the throttle body.

good lcuk.

You can easily do so, but it's not smart, just make sure that there isn't any dust blowing around before you do.

Go for it, tracks are relativley clean, or at least they should be. But if a pebble gets up there...man are you screwed.

If you're looking to run faster times, you won't, or at least I did't. I ran twice with no intake, and it was my slowest time.

prolly cuz yer bringing tooo much air into the manifold, and the manifold can only handle a certain amount.

Intakes are designed for a specific reason to create more usuable horsepower. You can benefit greatly from a properly designed intake for your car and a properly designed filter will gain more horsepower than running without one.

That could be the stupidest comment I've heard all day

Title fits - WTF are you talking about? Do you have any idea how engines work? If you had ANY grasp of how air is inducted into an engine...I somehow feel I am wasting my time.

To original poster:

It can/has/continues to be done - check out the cars with ITB's. Most of them run with no filter for track use. Yes there is some danger, but like was said earlier, tracks are usually pretty clean. A couple of times isn't going to hurt - just don't make a habit of it on the street.

Ummm...so my car is not running correctly with my turbo on it?? That pump WAAYYY more air into my motor than any filterless intake can.

just a suggestion. im running a type r throttle body on a b16a manifold, and the manifold sensors are acting up, cuz the throttle body ses wow im bringing this much air in, and the manifold cant handle that amount of air so it goes wow ill send in more fuel...therefore im running to rich...but thats not the point.

running on plain throttle body will not get you any better performance. the only way you will get better performance is doing a ITB like stated before.

only becuase it is its own manifold/throttle body, and each runner is like 70 MM (HUGE) sry for not making sence b4.

your sensors are not acting up because of the throttle body.if someone told you that they are lying to you.
i am sure most people here on h/t are running bigger throttle bodies and have no problems except more power.including my self with a 70 mm. much bigger than yours.

Yes you can run w/o filter, but it will wear out your rings noticibly faster then with one. Also filters act as air straighteners, you will usually get more flow from a properly designed air filter then none, usually. As for ITB's they have radiused lips that dramactly help the air enter the runners smoothly.
