can i get some advice
i just got my engine rebuilt-got a used crank from a 99 gsr, got the head rebuilt, got new pistons, rods, bearings-pretty much a total rebuild. i havent totally broke it in yet only about 350 miles on the new parts-but for some reason it doesn't seem to be as fast as it used to. i've only tried to redline it twice to see if it'll get up to 8100 rpm's seems like it takes to long to get there and there really isn't any power to the wheels. what can i do to tune it?
some things that you want to do are:
1. let the engine break in with decent revving. Be nice to it, but have SOME fun.
2. Proper break in took my friend Brad about 2,000 miles. His car acted like yours. Start it, warm it up, and get on the HIGHWAY, not interstate, and open her up a little. THen drive a little while at speed limit. after the car gets good and warm, pull in somewhere and let the car cool off. Eat you a burger...
Repeat the process, heading home. Do this maybe twice a week, if you can, no less than once... After you are SURE that you have put 1,500 miles on the carm change the oil. You can maybe go 1,600 but I wouldn't...
3. after another 1,500 miles of this change the oil again. you should notice some free revving of the car by now. Check things like the oil level in the trans, the timing on the distrib, check your cam gears too if you have them!!! If you retard the exhaust, you retard the distributor too!!!
Check fuel pressure. Check the fuel mixture... check for vacuum leaks, check for ANY little thing that can be slowing the car down. Remember, it isn't any one thing that wins a race, it is a whole lot of little things. Check them all.

thanks for the reply i needed the advice. i knew it would take about 2000 miles to break in the car. but i didnt think it would hinder my cars performance.
