Electric impact wrench (14mm socket) for the camgears.

Use the hook tool from your car jack tools and insert it into the #1 cylinder. Crank the engine CCW until cylinder #1 is at TDC and the crank pulley white mark indicates TDC.

What are you doing with the jack tools?

lol you should of taken the cam gear bolts off with the belt still on. they're gonna be a bitch to take of now. actually, i guess you could put the cam gear in a vice and bust them loose. to get #1 at tdc turn the crank til you line up the mark on the flywheel with the pointer on the block. then put the cams in.

Yeah, you just have to set the crank on the timing mark for #1 (same as #4, it doesn't matter). No need to worry about seeing if piston is up, it will be.
Wrap some rags around those cams and have a friend hold them. Hit the cam bolt with an impact and it will come out.
BE SURE to reinstall the cams pointed in the #1 position. It's easy to be off a tooth the first time you try this, so check your work.

Improvising. If you're paranoid about a screwdriver of whatever falling in, the hook on the tool will keep it from falling in. Try it....you might even like it.

Just go by the white mark on the crank pulley. There isn't any need to put anything in the cylinder.

If he has the cams out I'm assuming he has taken the timing belt off along with the crank pulley. There is also an arrow on the oil pump that you can use, or put the key slot on the crank shaft straight up, or pull the #1 or #4 plug and put something like they said or a stick, then when its at its highest point you are good to go.

Thanks, J
