cam caps?
ok here goes, I had to get a new used gsr head for my drag car and i noticed that the newer head did not have any of the cam caps, so if figured i would use the set i have from the old head and i should be golden....... well not the case so i put the head together just like it would be on the car, with out the valves and springs, torqued everything to spec and rotated the cams with a wrench and they are bound up.. they are suppose to spin freely right? so i got a another bad head i had on the shelf and tried those caps and got the same thing..... so my question how do you know which caps will work or not? i did notice one head i have has a number 2 and another head i have has a number 1 on it.... i did notice that the caps have a -1 and -2. does this number mean anything? how do i know what cam caps are going to work?
thanks

At the factory the caps are installed on the head and then bored. This means the caps and head need to be kept as a set.If you use different caps they need to be align bored to be correct.Sometimes you can get lucky and a few caps will line up,but rarely will a full set.The numbers on the caps is the order from cam gear end to distributor.
