I was torque-ing cams and tightening them in the recommended sequence and am 100% sure it was being done properly, all of a sudden the bolt in the very middle top on the intake cam side snaps and half of it is left inside the engine. my dumbass friend says he knows how to fix it and drills into the hole, shredding up the screw and ****ing up the thread, what do i do???????

 

Get a easy out to remove the broken bolt and tap to clean up the remaining threads.

BTW, those cam rail bolts are easy to break esp if the head has seen a few miles.

 

ill try that but most of it is already out and the threads are shredded up, i was thinking about re-threding it. or just leaving that one bolt out. would that work?

 

"tap" meaning tap and die?

 

i would drill the other broken bolt out. if you hit the threads it will be ok. and just go to an auto parts store and get a helicoil kit and just put one of those in it.

The Helicoil is a lot easier than oversizing the hole and using a bigger bolt.

Make sure you get it fixed though.. If a bolt is missing, it's going to put pressure on the cam cap and cause abnormal wear causing problems to the head and cam shaft as well as cam caps.

 

hey thanks for all the help guys, i thought i was going to need a new head but im going to use the helicoil kit and fix things things up. im also thinkin about ordering new bolts from honda (just to make sure i dont get any more surprises)

 

you can try a reverse drill bit.

 

Timesert > Helicoil

Is the bolt all the way in? If you just snapped the head you can get a dremel and make a groove for a flat screwdriver...
