i dont post too often but i plan to move to cali, san fran area, from chicago. does anyone know the differences in emissions between the 2?
i know that greddy is the legal turbo, but im sure not all turbo hondas are greddy in cali, how do you get around this? is n/a also outlawed? fill me in. also is san fran considered southern cal, and does northern cali have different laws.

Northern and Southern california are the same state.
They are governed by the same set of laws.
HOWEVER.... the laws regarding smog may different depending on where you live. Urban areas may require an enchanced test... where as an area in the sticks you may not need to go to a test only center. Here is the map:
http://www.smogcheck.ca.gov/ft...p.pdf
more specifically here is the zip code locater
http://www.smogcheck.ca.gov/ZIPAREA/ziplookup.aspx
The enhanced test is a dyno-smog check and the standard is a two speed idle test:

As far as the turbo is concerned, if it's a CARB expempted turbo (you will have a stamp or plate on the item itself, then it's legal.. otherwise no. It' it's not legal, you will have to remove it and return the engine to stock before any smog test/check.

so get it tested stock, then after you pass, turbo it and your ok? what if you are pulled over and inspected?
also, waht are the rules against n/a? if you have a high compression motor, will that fail even if tuned properly?

If you get pulled over, you could be ordered to the Smog Referree.
If you are going to mess with N/A you will most likely not pass smog.
Why do you want to do all this to a car that is being driven on the street.
You can swap another motor into this car, get it reffed and be legal and reliable and not have to worry about it.

San Francisco is NorCal..
any motor swap is illegal unless you get it BAR'd by the state referee and you CAN'T bar any JDM motor.. they must be USDM spec and can't be older than your car.. also you can't bar the B20 since its technically out of an SUV =/.. kindof a pain.. I would stay in Chicago.. although I don't know whats legal over there

Yes, I'm sure you'll like the weather in the SF Bay Area vs. Chicago. What area are you planning to move to?
You can still have a high performance car out here and still be smog legal. You just can't be stupid about it. We don't have many drag strips out here but if you like driving the Santa Cruz mountains will entertain you for years.

maybe they are in the same situation and instead of making another thread, they subscribe to one... its often that people dont notice the date... its not a big deal
Plus, if you search for something, the results go waaaay back sometimes. its easy to not notice the date if you do it this way.
