Default Cable Reel Testing....

Hey all,
I recently bought a 93 Civic that has the SRS light on and the horn doesn't work. I suspect the cable reel is at fault. I pulled the reel out and used the multimeter to measure impedence(sic?). So basically there is no continuity between the connections(colum side and steering wheel side) that I could detect with the meter..

SO is it broken? Or are there diodes or something in the reel itself that would make it test that way?

Is my testing at fault? How do you test these things?

Thanks for any info..

no diodes or anything in there, you need a new reel

definately the cable reel, I had the SRS-and-horn-not-working-problem. Just got it fixed last night.

I ordered mine through HAP Recyclers for 46 shipped.

Just make sure you install it properly. My dumbass broke the first one I bought (25 shipped), from a seller on H-T.

BeerMan, how did you break it installing it? is there much of a trick to installing it? I know the yellow gear thing has to line up, but is that it??

Thanks

well, when you put it in you have to "calibrate" it. The Helms says to rotate it clockwise until it stops, about 4.5 turns. Then you rotate it counterclockwise 2 turns. I made the mistake of not turning it back counterclockwise enough turns. So, later in the day, after doing other repairs, I took the car for a test drive. When I went to turn back in to the driveway, I had the wheel at full lock to the right. I heard like a squeaking/stretching sound coming from the wheel. And by the time it occured to me not to turn the wheel anymore I heard a snap, my SRS light came on again and my horn stopped working. Basically, the ribbon, or cable inside the reel stretched too tight in the one direction.

Sorry for the wordiness.

As for the gear thing lining up, I didn't have to touch it. I think it was already lined up. Actually my friend installed the first one and I don't know if he had to do anything with that gear. I know on the 2nd one I bought, it was lined up.
