Default CA smog refs

i have an 89 crx si which hasn't been running for 'bout 2 yrs. now....i want to drop a D16y8 engine.....the engine is a US engine, so i should have no problem with it passing smog....right?.....couldn't i just get it smoged to register it.....or do i need to take it to the refs because it's been non-operational for 2 yrs.....thanks

You need to get it smogged to register...
Yes, you can drop the Y8 in there. I suggest smogging it as a 95 engine no later. That way you can run OBDI otherwise you will have to upgrade (downgrade performance wise) to OBDII.

Just purchase a Z6 it makes it easier...unless you already have the Y8.

Oh, and the JDM engines are legal too.
Spade who has a JDM (big deal) Y8 in his Civic.

The smog refs makes sure you using the correct ECU with the correct engine and that nothing over deemed "illegal" is used on the car....

Make sure your engine and everything has either stock stuff or CARB equipment on it.

They will also ask for documentation on the ECU and engine to make sure you are using the correct one.

EDIT: JDM engines must have USDM equivalent smog equipment. 99 JDM B16 Must have 99 USDM smog equpiment for the B16!!
