Default A/C smell...

what causes the vents to give off that nasty wet rag smell? Does the A/C system need to be recharged or is there a simple remedy to fix it?

From what I've been told (and what I do) before you turn off your car turn the A/C off but let the fan run for like 30 seconds to get all the freon cooled air out other wise it will sit in the pipes and the moisture can let mold or some kind of bacteria build up causing a nasty *** smell. My A/C doesn't smell at all. hth

There is a hose under the car near the A/C evaporator that is supposed to let condensation escape. You know when a car is parked with the A/C on during a hot day and it leaves a water puddle, this is the condensation. If the drain hose is clogged you will collect water and it will begin to mold. It could also be leaking inside the car. I have the same smell and haven't yet figured it out. I will have to try that 30 second trick....sounds hopeful.

fmaxturbochick- What filter are you talking about? Only one I know of is the in line A/C filter and that one won't make a difference.

After I use my A/C I just unpush the A/C and Ventilation button and just let air from the outside run through the system for about 5 mins. No more smells for me
