*** PLEASE SCROLL TO BOTTOM FOR UPDATE:
quick breakdown:
*noticed white smoke out of the back of the car during hard acceleration
*loss of power
*compression: 210/200/200/90
*idling @ 700 rpm (tuned to idle 1050)
*running very rough
*leakdown = 80% leakdown on #1 cylinder with air coming out of ventalation tube on valve cover
pulled head:
*head gasket looks fine
*head looks fine
*piston looks perfect
*no scarring in sleeve
so i'm thinking: broken ring land?? i'm pulling the piston on monday... just trying to get a few more opinions. thanks.

i was thinking head gasket too.. but it looked fine. car never overheated. head gasket is being changed anyway.. obviously.

that's what i expect. i'm thinking the rings aren't TOO bad as there was no scarring evident in the sleeve.
a light hone/piston/rings should be all i need....... i hope.

during a race i had a FPR come apart. it leaked most of my fuel all over the engine compartment.. i'm guessing it leaned out, maybe detonated. it's the only thing i can think of.

update:
it WAS a broken ring land..
BUT I STILL HAVE A PROBLEM:
okay. the car seems to run right. compression is now 210 all the way accross the board.
but i STILL HAVE THE WHITE SMOKE. in fact, i had it after redoing the cylinder. and it's getting WORSE!
NOW i have a nice cloud when leaving a stop light, i can see some when i get on the gas kinda hard.. and when i come to a stop at the light, i can see it trailing away. no smoke while cruising.
aparently a SEPERATE problem from the broken ringland i had.. new headgasket.. new head studs.
maybe there is a crack in the block? isn't bluish/lt grey smoke from water?
this is stumping all of us and pissing me off greatly. anyone?
i see cars doing the same thing all around town so SOMEONE must know what is causing it, seeing how it's such a common problem??

No, that would usually be oil. Water would make a white cloud. How many miles on it since putting it back together? Sometimes it takes a while to burn all the crap out of the exhaust system.

Also, did you check to make sure both the head and the block were straight? That could cause some water to enter into the cylinders, but you'd probably also see water in the oil and a cooling problem as well.

it's not that heavy. started with just a bit during hard acceleration. now it's everytime i leave a stop light even under partial throttle.
i haven't tested it in any way. i don't know what to do. that's why i posted here. i've never had this problem before.
the only thing i could think is to double check the headstuds to see they are still torqued down.
seeing how i had this problem before AND after the rebuild, i'm thinking a crack somewhere, right?
how do i test where the leak is coming from?
also: when i tried to "burp" the system from the valve on the front of the block, nothing came out when i opened it (wheter thermostat was open/closed). the car has not been overheating
there is no white residue under my cap to suggest a leak.
so how do i find out where this is occuring??
i'll pulling the cams/etc out to re-torque the headstuds.. anything i should be looking for while it's apart??
thanks, guys.

A leakdown test will narrow it down.

that's what i was thinking. temp seems to be just fine.
i'm gonna do a leak down test ASAP
