Well, first off, VTEC is not a "thing". It is more of a "happening". Im not sure what you mean by breaking in VTEC either. Since it is not an item, you can't break it in.

If you are talking about getting the most from the engine, power wise, there is no point to rev the engine to the VTEC engagement point, then shifting. I recommend you go kick whoever told you that in the ***** and call it a day.

1) stop listening to your friends

APC makes a real nice "Vtec Break-In Oil", that means you can start to red line that bit*h from every stop light, you can get it a Auto-Zone, it works wonders.....

Actually we do know what's up, that's why we are laughing. No disrespect is meant towards you (at least on my part), but to the person who told you about breaking in the VTEC mechanism. Now, flame on.

Well said

VTEC is an oil-activated 'system', like everyone said, it's not an item. Therefore it doesn't require a break-in period. It either works or it doesn't (on a stock car). 'Taking it to just before VTEC' wouldn't do anything, as VTEC wouldn't engage. You might as well be taking it to 1000 rpm, the system still won't let any oil through the VTEC oil passages until VTEC engages. It would be like ... almost switching a light on a few times, on the premise that the light will switch on better afterwards.
