Default breaking the chain link to replace timing chain?

mercedes timing chain comes with a broken link and a new link to press in

you break the old chain and use the fresh link to feed the new chain through. one person holds new chain while second rotates the crank and then connect the chain link on the cam gear..

why is it not possible to do this on F20 or k series or other chain driven engines?

because those engines don't come with a crappy chain. Chains with replaceable links are only useful on such things like gates and such...not on engines.

Funny,but untrue.

It simply comes down to engineering design.

Many different types of engines utilize a chain with a Master Link to facilitate changing.

Mercedes has been doing it for decades ,on engines like a 5.5 liter Supercharged V8, that produces far more power and torque than an F20 ever will, and there have been zero problems with this set up.

There is nothing wrong with using a chain with a replaceable link....

They are simply not set up that way.

Does the chain actually need replacing? These Honda chains aren't like timing belts. When they're cared for by simple lubrication, they don't need to be changed.

I just sold my 185,000 miles TSX with original timing chain, and even Acura stated that it was... Perfect. .

If it doesn't need to be changed, don't.
If it does,

If only every owner understood this. Clean, quality engine oil is the key to the chains life.

My RSX has 210,000 right now with the original chain.

Yet Ive changed a few dozen stretched chains in K20s and K24s over the years in engines under 100k. They were always poorly maintained vehicles...

measure. lots of measure.

if you can get maybe a used chain from somewhere (i.e. junkyard) cut it up and measure it with a set of calipers (if you don't have some harbor freight does for $19) then try to cross reference those measurements with chains that do use a master link. you could possibly then buy that master link to use with the honda motors.

its for s2000 160000 miles chain is stretched and brand new tensioner is ticking after about 3 months
the modified tensioner is a patch not a permanent solution
motor has no leaks anywhere thats why i didnt want to break the good oem seal on the oil pan and timing case

If the the train was stretched, the vehicle wouldn't run right and you would likely get timing codes.

The chain guides are probably broken
