Brake help - searched
Hi there,
basically i just brought a ED9 (civic 1.6 i-16 d16) , its been sat for a while but i knew the car before standing and its good all rounder! basically the only problem with it is that the brakes arnt very good.
by this i mean they are very soft, they dont seem to work until about 3/4 of the way down. the pads need changing (which is getting done tomorrow) but the disks seem fine.
ive bled the brakes (allbeit just the front ones as the back nipples are seized on and dont look like they are coming off) (and i have all round disks as standard btw, not sure if you got the i-16 in the usa) and still not much difference.
when the engine isnt running and the servo isnt working the pedal is hard as a rock, its just when the servo starts it go's soft as hell.
ive read that alot of these problems are to do with master cilinders, any ideas?
thanks
scott
P.s would the rear calipers off a Ef vti be a str8 swap for the calipers on my ED9?

I'd bleed them again. Get some penetrant (Liquid Wrench or???) soaking in the rear bleeders for a day or 2 & try them again.
Every time I've tried to bleed 'only' the corners that need it, I never get away with it. Gotta bleed all 4.
With a bad master cylinder, the pedal will be solid at first, but if you hold the brakes for a couple minutes (red light) it will slowly, smoothly, sink to the floor. That doesn't sound like your description.
