Default Bottom-end engine knock? Major?

I'm looking at a Caprice and the owner says it has a "lower end knock". Granted, any knocking is bad but how much would it cost to fix this? I would assume it's the rods? Thanks all.

What year caprice and what size motor? If its an older box caprice with the 350 or 305 you could pick a crank kit (crank, rod, and main bearings) up for about 150 bucks and do the work yourself or drop it off at a shop.

http://seattle.craigslist.org/car/120569313.html. How hard would doing the work by myself be?
