Default Borrowing ECU

I just helped my buddy put a D15z6 in a 96 civic ex. It ran but had a check engine light. A tech scanned the computer, and thinks the ECU could be bad. Do you think it is a bad idea to let him borrow my 96 civic ex's ECU to test that theory?

Yes, if there is a short in his system, it can take out your ECU also, better to put his ECU into your car to test it.94

I add if the ECU is JDM than it will not read it either.

If the backup fuse (usually in the underhood fuse panel) is blown, the scanner wont connect either.
