Default Blown Radiator

Hey Everyone,

I'm a little perplexed by this occurance and I'm seeking some answers as to possibly why this happened. My OEM Radiator blew. I was at the track, and it fortunately didn't happen until i pulled into the paddock to call it a day. The Thermostat and Water Pump are fairly new, as well as the Mugen Radiator cap. The thing that I am confused about is that there was no Coolant in the overflow reservoir. There doesn't seem to be oil in the coolant, nor coolant in the oil. I'll be testing the thermostat, water pump, and fan to be certain those are working. Do you think it's possible the higher pressure radiator cap combined with a high mileage radiator could cause this? Has anyone had any issues with the Mugen cap? It was pretty cool to watch, but I wouldn't want it to happen again.

Here's a pic to go with the thread

Damn. That happened to a Prelude I owned. I never did figure out why it did that. Same symptoms as yours except the cap was stock.

Probably has more to do with vibration, older heat cycled plastic, at the weak point, [bend in plastic] then high pressure, time for an all aluminum rad. 94

Blown HG, would do it, especially with the "high pressure" rad cap. 94
