Blocking off VTEC oil pressure sensor
I have a JDM P72, and JDM ECU's dont look for the oil pressure switch. How do I block it off? Can I just put a screw into it? What size? Any ill effects of putting a screw into the VTEC oil pressure sensor hole?
that ecu will look for the oil pressure switch!!!
all VTEC ecus will look for it..

JDM ECU's do not look for the oil pressure switch attached to the VTEC solenoid. That is for american drivers who dont realize getting starting the car cold and romping on it is bad.

You must be thinking of the KNOCK SENSOR. No VTEC pressure switch, NO VTEC. ALL VTEC ECU's and engines NEED a VTEC pressure switch and a VTEC solenoid. And the knock sensor has nothing to do with "romping" on cold engine. It's to protect the engine from detonation caused by using fuel with too low an octane rating, as MOST americans are likely to do.
Because we're cheap and stupid.

And the knock sensor has nothing to do with "romping" on cold engine. It's to protect the engine from detonation caused by using fuel with too low an octane rating, as MOST americans are likely to do.

mmmmm....Obd2 jdm cars DONT have a vtec oil pressure switch...the vtec solenoid is what allows oil to lock the pins when opened.

Ya that is english I am speaking....VTEC is activated off a RPM signal....and that signal activates the solinoid which locks force oil to lock the rocker pins which in turn hits the VTEC lobes causing the VTEC effect....learn something before you go and try to start telling people how things work...(wheres that damn hammer when I need it)

now i'm intrigued. i'll keep an open mind, cause i honestly don't know for sure, and there are several reasonably intelligent people with split views. i personaly have never seen a jdm motor without the oil pressure switch. and it seems odd that any vtec engine would not carefully control the oil pressure in the solenoid and lockers. so i got to looking at pics on ebay, and though they are fuzzy i did not see any vtec pressure sensors on 98 spec B18c's.
i'm curious to know if they did or did not have them, and if not what was the reason.
it would be great if anyone had facts rather than speculation and opinion.
honestly though this reminds me of the thread when some guy said that jdm and usdm b series wern't compatible because the distributor and the vtec solenoid were on opposite cam positions.

I am stating facts....you even said it your self looking at the 98 specs...no sensor...
Havent you ever seen people asking to trade their selinoid from they JDM motor for a US one for the ECU....
Take for instance us model cars. Like the 00 Civic si....notice how the cluster can dim...and for the JDM CTR the cluster cant.
I dont like to say things unless I am like 95% sure...and on this Im sure...I have sevral motors and have built several motors....i am done with telling the truth...

im trying to find the picture of a JDM VTEC solenoid. It doesnt have anything coming out the side like US spec ones do. Also, contact hondata if you dont beleive it, they know all about ECU's and can tell you.

Honda's VTEC system uses oil pressure to lock together the followers in the head and engage the secondary lobe. The oil pressure is allowed into the runners by a solenoid that is actuated by the ECU. HOWEVER, all VTEC equipt engines have a sensor that tells the ECU that the oil is actually flowing into those runners. If there is no il pressure detected the ECU will deactivate the solenoid and throw a CEL. As for the knock sensor, I am not sure about the tegs but my JDM H22A had one.
What makes you think that the average Japanese driver is any smarter (i.e. not "romping on a cold engine") than US drivers.

i know what you are talking about but you have to make sure that you run the car first with that ecu cause if the gave you the wrong ecu then you will need to drill and tap and install a presure sensor afterwards. we have had obd1 motors come in with no pressue sensor but it was never tapped from the factory so there is no need to plug the hole if you look inside it you should see that it doesnt go all the way through into the solenoid
