best time to use nitrous?
someone told me that the best time to use your nitrous is in higher gears.(3rd or higher) can someone tell me if thats true. i always thought that you should use it only after 3k rpm or so in any gear.
When i was juicing my B16 i would use zex as soon as vtec kicked in 1st gear (4500rpm). damn was that a kick in the ***. 2000lb crx hitting vtec then hitting it with another 75 hp...swweeeeet. I hopefully will get the same feeling in my 1750lb HF.
its not that you shouldnt use nitrous in first and second gear. its just usually uselesss because you will most likely just spin your tires in those gears. and with that you would just be wasting it. and as for rpm it all depends on where it would ping or knock under load with the nitrous. going five hundred over to a grand over would be fine.
chevyalltheway, what are you talking about pinging and ****???? If you are pinging or detonating at all then i wouldn't even be running nitrous.. No matter how much you spin you will still put down more power spinnin than not.. You can squeeze just on top end if you want and it will help a little but just feather it out on bottom end and you'll notice it... You can do just as CND_CRX does and you'll be fine... Even with ZEX i still hook it up through the horn switch so that you can launch, go full throttle and then squeeze it once you got traction...
The only place I've heard recommend squeezing in the top end is the movie F&F. Let me fill you guys in. Like a supercharger, nitrous only adds a specific amount of oxygen. When you send a 100 shot through an engine at 1000 rpms, there is more nitrous per actual combustion than there will be at 5000 rpm. The higher the rpm the less effective it is. Nitrous adds torque, low end.
Squeezing in first usually isnt recommended because the torque reduction is high and it would be abusive. Use it in first with slicks on a track for maximum hook-up. Second gear, squeeze like theres no tomorrow if you want.

I launch on a 120 shot on slicks.
On street tires the 120 will spin the tires off in 3rd.
