Default Best ECU\program?

Im building a all motor, high CR JDM GSR engine. Right now i only have the bottom end built (JE 12.5:1 CR, eagle rods) and im waiting til next winter for the head. I dont have any ecu at all... not even the stock P72. Should i just buy a stock one and run that til i have the head built or is hondata the way to go? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

A buddy of mine has a fabrication shop and has done a couple of swaps. He's really impressed with Skunk. Not only to they modify your stock ECU and FedEx it back in only 2 days, but they ask the right questions. "What kind of motor is it? What is it's intended use? Drags? Road race? Natural or forced induction? Where in the rev range does the owner want it to make power?" Very cool.

I wouldn't go for the skunk2 or Mugen Chip from places like LoCash racing... I made that mstake for my b16... It ran REALLY rich and turned honda gas mileage into Suburban territory. It was quicker than the stock ecu (which I'm using now) but that is only from the advanced timing it runs. I would recommend getting a program from some people on this board that "asks what you have" like someone already said... But make sure it's a custom program and not a cheap Skunk rip off.

yea def go custom program not some ripoff chip designed for a motor you don't have... hondata, dfi, etc. you will spend more but you get more...and you can still get good gas milage and run higher comp safely.

ya know, the best thing to do is to get your car on a dyno and test out some ecu programs or you just might wanna look into a fully programmable system like that AEM computer box or the Hondata dealy.

if i get a Hondata stage 2, do i even need the stock ecu? OBD-I p72's seem to be running around 250-300 and the Hondata stage 2 isnt much more...
