Bent my valves, confused
Set up:
b18c1 block
pr3 pistons on gsr rods
stock head gasket
arp studs
ported pr3 head w/dual valve springs crower retainers stock valves
jdm dc headers
chipped p28 for now, hondata in near future
s2s2 cams w/hks cam gears
well, I just installed the cams yesterday, clayed it and everything, checked and double checked my timing, adjusted vaves to 7in 8 ex. clearance was fine when i clayed. and i did clay it with rocker arms locked the right way, done it before. new timing belt(not oem). cam gears at 0, 0. stock 16 degrees timing. everything checked out fine starting up, idle great ran pretty strong low/mid range.
got into vtec and at about 7500 rpms bent the valves. came back and checked under the hood, intake cam gear was almost 180 out. wasn't into the car hard just 3/4 throttle.
my question is what could have caused this to happen?? was my tension too tight?? slipped timing belt?? I'm not sure what valve springs I have, when i bought the head it supposely came with rev valve springs.
installed cams hundreds of times before with no probs. except this time in my car it just had to go wrong. im sitting here trying to figure out what went wrong. I know numerous people have done this set up without even claying and were fine.
don't wanna put it back together if i can't figure out why it did it?
i'm a noob here but not to honda motors, searched but couldn't find what i was looking for.
by the way, great forum, just never really got on.
all opinions welcomed and thanks in advanced.
could it be coil bind/valve float bent valves because i'm not sure if this guy really put on decent valve springs?

Thats my question as well. Unless you were lied to about the valve springs being aftermarket. Remember that stock springs will bind with cams bigger than stage 1. I would put my money on the valve springs.....
well i did put the keys in the cam gears. i pulled them today and pretty much everyone of the intake vavles were bent. no real damage to the pistons though. the valve springs look aftermarket, and yes they are stiffer than the stock ones(i compared the two) this ones got me stumped. I decided to put my stock cams back in and sell the cams to get some money to reimbures myself for the money i spent for new valves. if anyone wants them they're on ebay right now.

Didn't you check for coil bind? Either before or after? Sounds like you had everything else set up good.
