Bent Frame?
About six or seven months ago I had a front tire fail on me during a fast turn during a spirited drive late at night. This threw me backwards into a curb and wrecked my rear trailing arm, which I replaced. (just for everyones info. this was on a unpopulated road in the middle of a field...Wyoming, and I have since learned my lesson) Anyway, ever since the right rear (part that took the impact) has been about 1/2 inch higher than the left. Being as lazy as I am, I finally took the controll arms off and compared them to a good set, and they are the correct dimensions. The part of that side that I know is screwed is the trailing arm bushing, which is falling apart. Could the trailing arm bushing alone account for this difference or is it my frame? Also, if it is the frame, can it be fixed? If so, what kind of place could I get it done at? Sorry for all the questions. Any help is appreciated, thanks in advance.
if the frame is bent, it can be fixed, any competent body shop with a frame machine can do that. check the strut, spring, strut tower before you go calling body shops.
A good visual check should give you the answers you are looking for...
you will be looking at the stress points of the various bushings making sure they are all centered.. compare the good side to the side that took the hit and see if the bushings are centered the same..
Also take into consideration if your car has upper control arms and bushings as well..
if the car took a good enough hit to bend the trailing arm then theres a good chance you bent the strut as well..this should have been replaced too..
A good determination to see if the frame or control arm is physically bent is to look for kinks, chipped paint on the suspension parts..
