Default Benefit of coating a mild steel header?

What are some benefits of ceramic coating a header vs heat wrapping one, other than the looks?

Also would rust eventually eat through the header or would it remain as a surface rust?

Do a Web search!

Coatings keep heat in (a good thing.) They keep the engine compartment cooler (also good.) Yes rust will eat it alive, though a good coating will delay that for years. Heat wrap is a big debate. Some say it's great, but why is it that header manufactures void their warantee if you use it? It's because it makes the metal VERY hot, so hot it can kill a header, unless of course you have a 321 stainless unit... It also traps moisture against the metal contributing to corrosion.

how long would it take exactly for the rust to do a considerable damage?

Also is there a way I could paint the stuff on?

are there any other ways to prevent corrosion?

also is coating inside of the header necessary as well? because if not I could just get the ceramic coating material that doesn't need to be oven cured and just do the outside. Let me know.

Does anybody know if you can get your header "recoated"? My DC has lasted me 4yrs, but its starting to look a little old...

header wrap will make even stainless tubing oxidize

http://www.jet-hot.com/ - they will recoat your header - if it isn't trashed.

From personal experience - wrapping a header will kill it fast, it traps all the heat inside it gets wet and corrodes the pipes - it is a haf way solution at best. I know people still like the stuff, but headers that last two to three years and not good for me.

Veramic coating inside and out is the way to go - it keeps the heat where it is supposed to be - in the exhaust gas - and it helps keep velocity up be providing a smooth interior surface to the header. An uncoated vs. coated header picked up 7 HP on the dyno with my race motor.

if I just coat the outside, could there be serious corrosion problems that could develop in the future from inside the piping?
