BELT SNAPPED
I posted a thread earlier in the evening about my engine making weird noises, well 20 mins ago one of my belts snapped. Im not sure if the location of the belts is all the same for b series engines but on my 97 ITR if your looking down into your engine bay, the belt that snapped was in the middle of three, and connected to 3 different pulleys... i dont know which belt this is but it definately wasnt the alternator belt. Another thing is when the belt snapped, I stopped as soona s possible, but when i put my car in neutral, the engine stalled before i could turn it off. Does anyone know which belt this is and how much it usually costs to repair at a shop?

if the engine stalled before you could turn it off are you sure it is not the timing belt?
i do not see how the P/S or A/C could turn a car off? then again i do not have either one lol
seriously though it must be the timing belt no?

thanks for the help guys, i guess my idler pulley was bad, therefore my ac belt went... the mechanic quoted me at 260.00, what do you think about that? 20 for the belt 80 for the pulley, then 2.5 hrs of labor

first of all the pulley on the a/c system is metal is it damaged? if not why would you need another one?
personally i do not run a/c or P/S and i think any money spent on this is a waste can you not do this your self it is not hard or have a friend do this work for you?
other then that i am sure the price is the going rate for someone else to do the work these days

the idler pulley was bad, every time i would push in the clutch, my engine would stall, therefore yes it did have to be replaced.
I run ac and ps.
I didn't have time to call a friend, my car broke down around midnight, and i was stuck outside in -20 weather freezing until AAA came and towed my car. At the time i didn't know what had happened so i had my car towed to the nearest shop. Shopping around wasnt an option because i had no way of getting in touch with any shops at midnight, and i couldn't have the car towed to my house then to a shop because AAA only does one free tow per breakdown on my policy. So i had it towed to the nearest shop around that has a good rep, and is also within walking distance of my house. without my car i can't get to class or work, so time was a huge issue, i got lucky with this shop being able to fix it at such short notice.
Either way, thanks for the input everyone, i always appreciate the help on these forums.
