Default Bearings

I think I fanally found a block to start my project with. It s b18b. I will be doing a complet rebuild with Eagle Rods, and Endyn pistons. Right now I am only in the pricing process, and fiding all of the parts I need. My question is, where do I buy the rod and main bearings at? From the dealer? There is not an acura dealership in my area, but there is a couple Honda dealerships. Would I beable to order the bearings from them? What are the exact names of all of the bearings I need? And how much should I expect to pay?

I am going to attempt to build my bottom end myself. I think Im perfectley capable of doing it. What manual do you guys think would be the most helpful? Helsm, Chilton, or other? Is there any REALLY imfoprmative web sites out there that go throuhg every step of building a bottom end?

I highly reccomend taking your block to a a good machine shop for assembly. If you insist on building it yourself you'll need a high quality mic. You will need to mic the crank and the mains. With this measurement you will determine which bearings from honda to use. (They have different color codes for different thicknesses) I cannot stress enough taking this to a machine shop. The most minute mistake while building the botom end becomes huge. Ask yourself these questions. Who is going to hone my cylinder bores? Who is ging to bore my cylinders to match the aftermarket pistons? Who is going to fit my pistons/set my piston ring gap? Who is goin to magnaflux all my parts to make sure they're still serviceable? If you are truely qualified to do all these things or they don't bother you by all means build it yourself. If they do mean something to you it is well worth professional assembly.

HELM Manual
Torque wrench
plastigage

If you have those things, then you should be able to do the job yourself
assuming you are somewhat competent.

Call Mike K at naples Acura, he can get you the bearings and other parts that you
will need. 180079ACURA

I plan on having Golden Eagle bore and hone the sleeves to match the Endyn 84.5mm pistons. It cost a extra $120, over the price of the sleeves. Im pretty sure Golden Eagle does not do the honing thems selves, they send it to a machine shop who they trust and have worked with before. The main reason I want to do it my self is for the experience, and seld gradification. And for the fact that there is only one person in my area who has experience with building Honda engines. He quoted me $600 for just assemleing the bottom end, not including bearings and machine work. IMO, that is a little much.

I am unfamilier with the term "mic"? What does that mean? Does it stand for micrometer (speel check?). If so, I have a very high quality digital micrometer that I use for reloading amunition that has to be to 10 thousands of an inch within spec. I am not worried or afraid of messuing any engine parts.

Right mic meaning use a micrometer. My only other question would be who is going to install your sleeves?

THERES NOTHING WRONG WITH BUILDING YOUR OWN ENGINE..AND IF YOU SCREW UP...TRY AGAIN..YOU GOTTA LEARN THAT WAY. BUT I'LL TELL YOU ONE THING..IF THE GUY WHO IS GONNA BUILD YOUR ENGINE IS QUALIFIED..ITS WORTH PAYING FOR..DONT SKIMP ON YOUR ENGINE ASSEMBLY.AND DONT TRY TO SAVE A BUCK..IT WILL NOT PAY OFF!

Im not trying to save a buck. I want to build build my own engine. I have a ton of experience working with tools. I think I am by far experienced enough to build my first bottom end. All It will really be doing is assembling it to specs. I have talked to several people who said as long as you follow the Helms manual, everything should go smooth.
