Default Battery Relocation

So it's time to relocate my battery into the rear trunk area of my EJ Civic. Now always in the past I've just ran 4gauge wiring to the stock hot location in the engine bay. Someone said the cars using wire tucks and what not are using 8 gauge to the starter. So does this mean I can run 8 gauge in place of my old standby process of doing a 4 gauge run from back of the car to engine bay?

Use at least the 4 guage for sure. Also, don't use bulk wire. Go to your closest welding shop and get welding grade wire. It's a fine strand wire. Electricity runs through it better and more consistantly. That's why welders use it. They can run it for long distances and don't lose any energy doing so.

i've always used soft strand 4/2gauge wire. something you get from the stereo shops... but i'll check the prices at the welding shops.

It's the exact same wire as soft strand. It should be a lot cheaper at the welding shop. They buy and sell in bulk. Pass the savings to the consumer. At least that's the way it is in So. Cal. The outer casing won't be pretty though. It will be heavy duty, oil resistant, and thicker then what is sold at the stereo shop. I myself prefer function over form. The stuff is really tough.

Welding cable FTW, use at least 4ga or you will have "voltage drop" current will also suck.

Do not use a splitter box, run 4ga from batt., [install in-line fuse] to starter motor, then run an 8ga from starter motor to engine bay fuse box. 94
