Bad Valve Guide???
I'm having real trouble with an H22. The engine is puffing grayish smoke out of the exhaust heavily. I ran a compression test and all four cylinders are in the 220's. I also ran a leakdown test and got 10% leakdown at all 4 cylinders at 100 psi. The #4 spark plug electrode had oil all over it. When I originally got the engine I pulled the head because the exhaust valves were leaking. I found the #4 exhaust port to be smudged with oil residue. The head was taken to a machine shop for a valve job. The machinist said there was no play in the valve guides, so I just replaced the seals. Now I am beginning to suspect the valve guides in the #4 cylinder. Any input?
well the only time i've had trouble with a valve guide it only smoked bad or even really noticeably after sitting for a while. the oil would seep down the valve and collect in the cylinder. then just burn off after start up and slowly become unnoticeable.
