Default Bad trottle response/acceleration

I recently purchased a 97 Civic EX, it has just the basic I/H/E. However, it also has 96,000 miles. The accelration is not that great, actually my HX will beat it in a good solid run. (No not the 1320, haven't done that) What should be some of the things that I should look into to get this car up to speck? What should it be capable of when I get it repaired? Also, the rpm's hang at 1500 when I put in the clutch until I come to a complete stop then they drop to about 550-600 and stay there. Should I look into replacing the ECU?? Also, the MPG is about 20.

I daily the HX so I don't know how the EX truely drives (wife's toy) and would like some help.

Thanx

I would just go all the way and put in a new, lower mileage engine. Possible a bigger d series or just put in a del sol engine. I mean it doesn't get any better than that right. Besides why would you want to sup up your old crappy engine anyone right. Thats the way I feel about my 162k hf engine

I am not looking to go with a swap in that car. I was looking at a turbo. WAY in the future.

i would honestly just recomend a good tune up. The MPG;s sound way off so something has to be off. 96K miles is alot, but not too many by any means. My 94 integra has 120K, i just filled up the tank today and the odo. had 380 miles since last fill up!! I dont know how but it does. only put in like 12 and some change gallons in it. THe high idle sounds like a PCV valve or another tune up related part. NOt a major deal just a matter of doing it.

i agree! and also check your throttle body, probably needs cleaning (throttle plate).
good luck!
