i was just wondering because just when i got everything ready to drag...dual stage boost and drag radials...and i recently converted to manual tranny...i all of a sudden am getting grinding going to 3rd. i guess syncronizer going bad but i want to get some times.
I would check the tranny fluid levels and/or change the tranny fluid. This may or may not help. It sounds like the syncro is gone
seems to be very common in honda tranz. my y21 2-3 sync is dead if I'm at high rpms. so i have to 'bitch shift'
If you raced you would loose some momentum and maybe a few tenths of a second...maybe more i don't know for sure. Think about it though, if you stress something that is going bad... you'll probably do more damage

sounds like you need new syncro's. Your gonna need to open up the box anyway so I would try shifting it without lifting off the trottle and see if it goes in. If it does go racing.

syndicate is right. i have a bad 3rd gear synchro and when i went racing my homie said that you can totally tell that i slow down when i shift to third. Thas why i am hiting a 14.9 with a usdm gsr in a crx. But you can still race on it, my synchro is really bad i have to shift like at 2-3k so my poo poo wont grind...... and i still race with that poo poo. Im just waiting till it goes completely!!! But just be prepared to tow your ride home.

Well if it's a big race, Yeah. GO RACE. See i normally race for money so if the car will shift at full throttle you better believe im gonna race it and hopefully win so i could pay for the new parts. He needs to replace his syncro's anyway so whats the difference. While he's in there he should replace them all too.

your going to be running slow times......and its hella embarassing to break down in front of alot off people. Well good luck if you do.
Well there is grinding and then there is GRINDING....My b16a into Civ EF always grinds with shifts above 4k going 1st to 2nd and then 2nd to 3rd also. On the 2-3 shift I usu. shift at 9200 rpm and have been doing that for 3300 miles.
There can be a lot of causes, even the clutch and not always synchros. It prob sounds crazy but depends on how its grinding, you might be able to learn how to work around it, if you know what I mean...
If you can follow, on the 1-2 shift I back out of the accelerator on the way out of 1 and then just as it is going into the gate of 2 I then roll hard back into the accelerator. That seems to work, but each is different & kind of touchy-feely.
