Default Bad Cat question??

To anyone that can help out;
What are the effects/symptoms of a bad cat? It's not in pieces because I can't hear a thing rattling inside of it. Wand to know if it's clogged. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks!

effects: bad fuel economy, rough idle, loss of hp

symptoms: assuming it's an oem cat, you probably went too rich with the fuel and overloaded it. trust me, you can SMELL it. big time.

solution: test pipe or catco cat.

symptoms of a bad cat are as you stated rattling. also a cat should have a honeycomb shape on the inside that if you hold up to light and look through one end you can see the light. if you can't then it is clogged or collapsed and should be replaced. also as the other members stated you will know it's really clogged if it turns a hot red. and you could be running to rich and killed the cat. but the normal rule is if you shake it and hear nothing all is good.

Thanks for all the replies. I have a test pipe on hand, so I'll trying that on today.

also dont be fooled by thinking its clogged by looking through it.

when looking through it youll only see about a pinhole size of light its very small.

I know that all you see is a little bit of light. Thanks! I was able to take it out yesterday, and found out that the intake side of the cat had a crack on the flange. When cold it would be fine, but when warmed up it would expand. Once I get some bolts/nuts/washers today, I'll putting that in. Thanks for the help!
