Backfire or what?
2004.10.16
OK, scenario:
Engine warms up while driving. After the engine warms up (temp. gauge at about halfway) I notice that my car starts "bupp-bupp-bupp"~ing at part throttle or with no throttle applied. Sometimes, there is a loud "BAPP!" type sound from the exhaust.
I've changed my spark plugs to NGK heat range 6 plugs (one colder than stock). I have the basic bolt-ons (intake, exhaust) and a fuel regulator added to my stock SOHC motor (non-VTEC) on a 95 Civic DX. I don't have any power loss at any time, but I have considerable power gain compared to stock (non-dynoed, but the car pulls WAY harder than ever). Fuel consumption by the motor hasn't changed much (little less than stock) and I don't see or hear any of my buddies telling me about colored smoke (white/blue/black) while I drive or am at idle.
Just wondering, is the car producing backfires? If so, the loud "BAPP!" I described would be a large backfire correct (flame?)? COOL. But, just trying to make sure that something else isn't going on...
Thanks!

The timing at idle is stock. And the distributor isn't dislodged or attached in any strange way (stock, hasn't been touched). In regards to this, I think the timing is pretty much not a problem.
Anyone else have any ideas? Thanks!
