on the thermostat housing is the fan switch contact. if you don't have this sensor, your radiator fan will not start and your engine will over heat.
so, yes you will have to found a thermostat housing with the sensor hole.

If you're just going to replace the neck, it must be from an obd1 b series. The obd0 b series engines have the fan switch in the back of the block. Check the b20b maybe it's back there. It would be a 2 prong sensor near the oil filter. Maybe someone converted it to run the obd0 switch before you bought it.
the ONLY sensor i have is an oil pressire sensor (i believe). its the one with the nipple sticking out and the part on the harness looks like a hershey kiss. thats the best way i can describe it. after looking at my friends b16 i realized he has a sensor on his thermo housing

i bought the engine from a machine shop in North Dakota who installed the Block Guard and bored/ honed and i assembled the rotating system. im not sure who got their hands on it before, but i am going to my garage now so ill snap a pic of what the back of the block looks like. its actually a JDM B20b if that helps??
scratch what i said... there are two sensors. the one i previously described and a green one with two prongs on the upper half of the block. im guessing that is the fan switch? and if it is will i need the sensor on the t- stat housing now?
