you need ls length rods if using the stock b20 crank and 84mm pistons if sticking with the stock bore

can they be stock rods and pistons?? i want to be able to redline pass the B20's redline and hit closer to type r redline. do i have to get stronger ones??

to use stock rods and rev higher you'll need at least arp rod bolts. stock pistons wont nearly give you the compression you want.

i am very curious on why my stock setup failed. i was hitting vtec and the motor stopped then a whole bunch of knocking happened. i thought i blew a rod or rods. i checked and rods were fine. cylinders were clean and crank looked perfect. i change the rod bearings and piston rings. still i have a knocking noise. only when i put the plugs in???? when plugs arent in no noise. it sounds like it near the top of the block. could this be valves?? i dont have the cams installed.

yeah i realize that now. do the valves move though without the cams installed??? AND WHAT SHOULD I REDLINE AT if i get new rods and better pistons???

think about that for a second

but see thats the problem when the power dropped off i broke something. i dont want to break anything again. i just figured i had the stock crv oil pump and internals. the crv redlines around 6500 right. now i have a type r oil pump and possibly better and stronger rods and pistons so could i possibly rev higher and be safe. or what would be a safe redline?? do you know about the valve movement or no???

exactly. revving higher than that on stock b20 internals is just asking for failure eventually.

just so you know, all 96+ b series oil pumps are the same. how high you should rev depends on wherever the cams stop making power. the only way to know this is to put it on a dyno.

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">do you know about the valve movement or no???</TD></TR></TABLE>

i'm still not sure what you're asking??

i am curious if do the valves move if you just have the head installed, no cams in it when u r turning the motor over? or do they only move when cams r installed and rotating

the valves are opened and closed by the cams. so of course if cams arent installed they wont move.

k. just making sure. i need to know what the knocking noise is. i think its the pistons or the rods. but they look fine, the guy at the machine shop said that my piston and pins were fine too. i am soo confused on this matter, its pissing me off. it only makes noise when i start putting in the plugs 1 by 1. more compression more noise. u dont have any alternatives do you??
