Default B18c5 rod and cap questin

So i put new rod bearings and main bearings in my motor and i have je pistons on stock rods, when i torque dow the rod bolts im able to slide them back and forth on the crank, is this because my crank was machined previously and i need oversized bearings? also if thats the case does that mean i need new main bearings also? and am i supposed to put engine assebly lube on both sides f the bearings? Thanks

You need to measure your clearances with either guages (mic.s and bore guage) or plastiguage. You only use lube on the surface between the bearing and the crank.

yeah its always a good idea to have everything checked over by a machine shop if down time is not a issue,as most of us dont have the tools to blueprint with.
