from what I understand, the Type R crank is actually heavier than the GSR crank because Honda enlarged the counter balances due to the higher rpm level on the Type R. Pistons are different obviously but other than that the crank weight is the only bottom end difference I'm aware of between the B18C1 and B18C5 blocks.

The type R pistons are forged and coated from the factory, higher compression. The type R bottom end has a better rod ratio. Other than that I think they are just about the same.

Type R pistons are NOT forged... they are cast just like GSR pistons. Both are coated. The only differences are slightly "taller" pistons on the ITR to give slightly higher compression, and the crank is heavier. Rods are also slightly different, but I think the rod ratios are exactly the same.

If I remember correctly they use light weight rods too. So basically its the rods and pistons. But I'm not too sure though...

Yes diff rods and pistons. There are also a couple more counter balancers on the ITR crank. The rod/stroke ratio is identical on both. I would get the ITR, because of the higher compression and less mileage. They are around $2000 brand new for either so base your pricing off that.

Also lighter flywheel and smaller crankpulley, if you get those with the block and Oil cooler (but it all depends if you are getting a bare block or short block)

Type R pistons are NOT forged
I beg to differ.

I know the pistons have this grey coating on them for reducing friction, but as far as then being Forged... they dont look like it..
