Whats the difference between all the b18c (1-5) engines?

c1=gsr c5=Hyper-R. jdm engines dont have the last number and both have the same code.

Ok.. that site explains some of it.. but my real question is what makes the c5 different from the c1. I see the c5 has more hps torque and a higher compression ratio. I see this trrend with all the other engines too. Is the higher compression ratio what makes it put out more power? what makes the ratio different on the two engines?
