b18a1 into eg hatchback, help please.
hey guys before anyone ask why b18a1, I got it for a deal and im interested in horsepower, just a good reliable car. anyway I have a b18a1 and I want to put it into an eg hatchback, now I don't have a shell yet but that's what I plan on purchasing, I want to know which year shell would be easiest to do the swap, I don't want ac or ps so that isn't an issue. and what are the parts I need to complete the swap successfully.
so far I have:
b18a1
s1 tranny
axles( I know they came out of a da integra and I know they fit in the tranny)
from what I undertand I still need:
motor mounts
gsr halfshaft
and some "T bracket" ( what is this for and why do I need it)
now my big questing is what do I do with the wiring and harnesses etc etc, I guess it really comes down to which model eg I get, but if its going to be super hard I wouldn't mind swapping it into a coupe or crx either I like them all. if a crx or a coupe would be significantly easier to do, ill go for it. thanks!!!!!!

You're going to need different things for an EG or EF. The cable transmission is not going to work without a conversion kit in an EG which generally doesn't work out well. Also the B18A won't be plug and play in an EG either due to different distributors and injectors. Take that into consideration. Any EG will be fine, the only real differences are minor wiring items.
thanks for the reply, I understand I need the conversion kit from hasport I think its called, and why do you say it genereally doesn't work out well? and so the only real wiring I need to do is for the injectors and distributor? if so I think I can deal with that. I don't plan on doing the wiring but I know a few people who know what they are doing. and will the car be legal and pass inspection?
Since u have an s1 trans ill assume u have a 90-91 obd0 motor. Get rid of the cable trans n get a hydro trans, itll make the entire process much easier! Then ull need a distributor n injectors from a 92-95 integra(obd1-saturated) as well as an alternator n either a 92-93 integra pr4 or 94-95 p75 ecu. Also get a throttle body from a 94-01 integra that has the map sensor on it bc DA integras r on the firewall. Eliminate all the vac bs on top of the intake manifold by re-routing them like a 94-95 integra bc its u necessary chaos. Order a set of 92-95 civic b-series swap mounts for more durability compared to stock DC integra mounts, 94-01 integra shift linkage, half-shaft n axles. Basically ur gna nd a slew of parts to make it all work rite. Ur betr off w a full 94-95 integra ls swap IMO! Ur lookn at way more hassle than nds to b there bc u seem fresh to the scene n seem to b getn in over ur head for such a simple swap. Not hasslin u, jus tryn to help u out
efhatchbackracer, I bought the trans separate from the motor I believe the motor is obd1 and I already have all of these parts I don't want to try to resell them and start over. are you saying instead of buying an eg shell, I can buy a 94-95 dc integra and its pretty much plug and play? if so I would like that much beter.
so what im saying if I drop my obd1 b18a1 motor into a obd1 dc integra will it be pretty simple for the most part? and will my s1 trans work? I don't care about power anything like that.
i think that im just going to buy a 1990-1993 DA shell and just drop it in, considering that's the car the motor originally came in its should be, drop motor in, plug up hardness, feel fluids and off I go.

If its an obd1 motor ull b jus fine putn it into an 92-95 civic chassis as ling as all components came from an obd1 car; injectors, distributor n alternator. The 92-95 engine harness plugs will match all of those but again i would get a hydro trans if goin that route, makes everything a ton easier! If u go 90-93 integra jus remember 90-91 integras r obd0 n 92-93 integras r obd1 so if u end up having an obd1 goin into an obd0 car ull nd the distributor n alternator to match, in this case the injectors rnt such a big deal, all ud nd to do is either get an obd1 harness injector resistor box cap(bc obd1 injectors r saturated n dont need an injector box) or u could cut the wires to the resistor box after the joint plug, twist together, solder them all together n wrap them to prevent grounding to the body but i prefer the harness cap. If u get a 92-93 integra n the engine has all obd1 components its plug n play n u can can keep the trans bc all 90-93 integras come w cable trannies. Jus keep in mind w the s1 trans ull nd a clutch for a 90-91 integra bc 92-93 integras internals r equivalent to 94-01 hydro trannies n have bigger input shafts. 92-93 trannies guts can also b put into a 94-01 hydro case which is what im doin w my jdm ys1 b16 trans
my recommendation is jus get a 90-93 integra if u wana keep the cable trans
my recommendation is jus get a 90-93 integra if u wana keep the cable trans
so I can keep my trans and just drop the motor in and it will be plug and play, since this is my first swap I want to keep it as simple as possible!! thanks for all the help and support!
If its an OBD1 engine then yes it should just be plug and play. And just to clarify OBD0 and OBD1 alternators are the same and will plug and play.
n no problem, anything else u need to know feel free to post up here or pm me
