Default b18 vs. h22

Ive been working my *** off saving all the money i could to fix up my car. I know enough to get around and keep my car running w/ out problems. Anyways my question is, I drive around a bone-stock 92 civc hb, i have the money to afford a "bigger than b16" engine, the point is between the h22 and the b18 which would be the better for mostly street/with some racing. If you could help me out id apreciate it.

h22 in a civic is a sick car, but youre gonna have to really work the suspension to get the thing to handle right.

i'd go with a B series motor. easier to drop in, and more interchangable parts. but that's just my opinion.

since you're swapping an engine into a small civ hatch you would have a hell of a time trying to get the h22 into the car but if you did it your car would be pretty f*ckin fast but if you want it not to be a race car and more streetable then I would suggest b18.

IMO...if you want only straight line speed...go h22. Overall versatile swap..b18.

An h22a in a civic is very streetable. As far as suspension goes, get integra rate springs or coilovers, and good shocks, your good to go.But don't expect it to handle like a type r either.

H22 in a Civic is not as bad as everyone says it is. It's very streetable, and most people upgrade the suspension anyway, so just order some higher spring rate springs. Go to search and just type "H22" and you will find plenty links that should be helpful.

If you want a faster then everybody else with a B-series swap car, then get a H series motor. A guy I know put a H23 non-VTEC engine into his 92 cx and it went 13.7 on street tires. I could only imagine that an H22 VTEC would be faster then that. Just mix and match the right suspension components and your set. It will be plenty streetable, just have torque, which is something B-series know nothing about.

If you want the best of both worlds go B20 vtec with high compression pistions.....i have it and i think it is great ... same weight as b18 with more torque

Thanks for everything, i think i would rather have the H22, it may be heavier, but i think it would be the smarter choice since it has more torque and power, on the topic of suspension, i think Eibach's Ground Design kit would work the best, id like some feed back on the suspension though. And once again id like to thank anyones that voiced their opinon, rather it constructive or not.

Ya... People think an H series engine in a civic is too heavy and induce understeer, but i think its all exagurated. The only thing i would think about that would keep me away from it is tha availablity of parts/interchangeable parts, and it is pretty cramped in the engine bay. So, it might be a pain to work in there.

The main thing though is your gonna have a whole lot of fun doing da actually swap... ( headaches??)

i know this from personal experience of owning a del sol with an h22a and having done some h22 swaps in civics.I bet most of the people who say"its a bad idea, and this and that and blah, blah, blah" are the ones who have not driven one or tried the swap themselves.

If you swap any F or H series engines into a Civic/Integra, I highly suggest you get stronger axles. I've seen many people destroy axles. I've gone through a few myself on my Accord and the integra axles are smaller and weaker.

Why do you post that your h22 has more than 380 whp. Then you ask what motor you should get?

the H22 only weighs 80lbs more than the B18C1. just get a fiberglass hood and paint it over, relocate the battery, and some other stuff. only reason why the rumors about "h22 civic can't handle for ****" is because some stupid guy doesnt know what he's doing and messed up his ride and starts to tell everyone that his h22 in his civic handles like crap

just look on the bright side..your h22 civic is comparable to a B18C1 civic, but the other driver weighs 80lbs more than you
