Default B17a same as B16a in certain parts?

Hey,
I have a B17a and was gonna replace the headgasket b/c I bought the motor with the head separated from the block. I was going to call up Honda (b/c it is more convenient for me, Acura is too far) and order the headgasket and head bolts for a 99-00 Civic SI (B16a2). I was also gonna get the timing and alternator belts for the same motor.

I have heard that the B17a and B16a are the same except for the cams, pistons, rods, and crank. Physically, the blocks are the same. Correct?

The heads are definately the same. Blocks should be the same overall - the b17a has a PR3 head and PR3 block.

Blocks are the same exactly. Only major difference is rods and crank. For the purpose of ordering a head gasket, they are identical.

I should know, I just switched from a B17A to a 2nd gen B16A.

We use a B17a block in our car. It seems to have the same Rods as an LS B18A1, But thats just to the naked eye. They are beefier then the B16 and B18 rods. Other then that, your B16A headgasket and studs will work fine.

Why the switch, may I ask? I assume age.

I think I remember a post on G2IC.com that he blew his B17A. Could be wrong though.
